Paula Dean, Chef or a Hypocrite?

My wife and I enjoy watching many of the cooking shows on TV. They make it look so easy with their pre-measured dishes of ingredients that they drop into the bowl. One of my personal favorites is Rachael Ray when she makes great dishes in just 30 minutes. Rachael was a bit different in that she didn't have those tiny dishes of ingredients. She started the show by gathering all the items she needed from the refrigerator and food pantries on the TV set.

All of these TV Chefs prepare a wide variety of dishes that people love to eat, and they are like my grandmother, in that they take great pleasure in having people enjoy their delicious creations. They love to watch you eat and enjoy the food. It thrills their hearts when people ask for seconds and thirds and fourths and....

Perhaps the TV Chef most like my grandmother is Paula Dean. She loves to create dishes that nobody can resist. She recently came under attack when she revealed that she suffers from Type 2 Diabetes and that she has teamed up with a drug company that sells medication to those who suffer from Diabetes.
Some are calling her a hypocrite because she promotes all kinds of foods that she should not be eating since she is a diabetic. Her response to them was "Get a life!"

Are overweight chefs considered hypocrites because they create dishes that are so delicious that people love to eat them and then gain weight as a result?

Is a hamburger flipper at McDonalds a hypocrite if a customer eats too many Big Macs?

Is Paula Dean a hypocrite because she shows people how to prepare meals that may cause problems if a diabetic eats too much?

What is a "Hypocrite?"

According to my dictionary, a hypocrite is someone who pretends to have virtues, beliefs or principles that they don't. It includes those who criticize others for something that they themselves do. A hypocrite is a pretender and a deceiver.

By this definition, Paula Dean is clearly not a hypocrite. However those who are criticizing Paula ought to watch out for themselves. Hypocrites are usually seen running around being critical of others and finding fault. Paula is only guilty of one thing...She makes some of the most delicious and irresistible dishes in the world.

TSA Confiscates "Explosive" Cupcake from Passenger

This women had her cupcake taken from her at Las Vegas airport because the TSA agent claimed it might be explosive.

I guess that is what can happen when you hire people who can't even keep a job at McDonalds and put them in charge of airport security.

So the lesson we learn from this incident is not to take cupcakes on a plane.

"Occupy" Should Start Their Own Political Party

I have a suggestion for our Occupy friends. Instead of sitting around doing nothing but costing taxpayers money to pay for police overtime, and generating bad publicity for themselves, I suggest that these people organize themselves into a political party and elect people who believe as they do. Go back to their homes and work to make a difference like everyone else in America.

If they really do represent 99% of the public, as they claim they do, then they should have no problem turning the United States into a socialist nation.

If on the other hand they only represent a tiny fraction of the American public, as I believe they do, then they will not be able to influence elections and should move to a socialist country where they can reap the benefits of that type of government.

You know what. I just realized something.

There already are two parties who share common goals of the Occupy group. They are the Socialist Party USA and the left wing of the well known Democrat Party.

There are those on the far left of the Democrat Party, like Nancy Peloci, Harry Reid, Obama as well as numerous union thugs, who have shown sympathy towards the Occupy crowd. They may find the Socialist Party USA more to their liking.

Lack of Competition in Educational Profession

I grew up in a family that valued teaching. My father was a high school teacher in Los Angeles, my aunt was also a teacher, and my single parent grandmother supported her family as a teacher. No wonder I enjoy teaching, to all age groups and in numerous subjects.

However, as I searched for a profession with which to support my own family, my father discouraged me from selecting teaching. Government involvement, politics, lack of funding, tenure, and employee unions were but some of the topics he and I discussed as I considered the teaching profession. As our discussions continued through the years, long after I had taken a job as a Mechanical Engineer, I remember him asking me how I survived in a competitive job environment without tenure. I told him that the uncertainty of my job ensured my employer that I would do my best for the salary he paid me. I don't think my dad was satisfied with that response. He was not alone in the mindset that an employee should not have to worry about performance in order to keep his or her job.

That idea of a guaranteed job is what is wrong with the entire education profession today. For some reason, teachers and professors at all levels of education enjoy the right to almost permanent employment no matter how they perform at their job.

As you examine the two graphs above you can see that because of this lack of competition, it does not make a difference how much money you spend on education. The cost of education goes up as the enrollment is steady. Test scores show no improvement as spending on education skyrockets!

We need to inject competition into our education system. It will improve the caliber of teachers, educators and thus the actual learning that takes place. Getting rid of teacher's employee unions would be the first place to start to solve this problem. They are money leeches which have attached themselves to the teaching profession and produce no benefit. Next get rid of the concept of tenure and force teachers and educators to compete for their jobs, even after they start teaching.

There are those who say that if you eliminate tenure, the teachers can't do as good a job since they will be distracted by the worry about keeping their job. They say that they won't be able to devote themselves 100% to teaching, if they have to worry about losing their job. That is the whole point!!

I submit to you that we will have better school teachers if they are constantly devoting a few percent of their attention to maintaining high performance so that they can keep their jobs. Semi-annual or annual performance reviews, based on student feedback and test scores, will help keep teachers stay focused on their real jobs of teaching and learning.

MacNiven Nearly Run Over By Clueless Woman

Today I was walking towards my car outside a neighborhood drug store when I was nearly run over by a woman driving a Toyota Prius. As the woman continued on after the incident, I couldn't help but notice two things about her car.

First, that she was driving a Toyota Prius. Now I will acknowledge that there are Prius owners who admidt that they own a Prius because they like the technology. I commend them for their integrity. However, most Prius owners believe they are saving money and protecting the environment. Not only are they NOT saving money, but the environmental cost of manufacturing, driving, and disposing of a Prius and its batteries, far outweigh any benefit from getting 50 miles per gallon.

The second thing I noticed about her was the personal license plate on the back of her car. What I saw printed on her license plate certainly summed up the entire situation.

It said simply "CLULESS"

Occupy Protester Dies in Pioneer Park

I read this morning that one of the Occupy Protesters, who was living in Salt Lake City's Pioneer Park has died of unknown causes. Here is the photo that appeared on Drudge Report:

On the floor of his tent, right next to his sleeping bag is a propane stove, much like the ones used by Boy Scouts and other campers. It is very possible that this poor man, in an effort to stay warm during the cold night, used his stove as a heater inside his tent and asphyxiated himself while he slept.

I can't recall how many times, as a Scoutmaster, the boys and I discussed the dangers of bringing stoves into a tent. And I can't recall how many times I read about men, women, and entire families dying during their sleep because the used a stove as a heater inside their tent.

UPDATE: I read today that the cause of this man's death was a combination of carbon monoxide poisoning and drugs.

Penn State Protestors Have Misplaced Values

In less than a week, Penn State and their entire football program have become a mockery. An assistant football coach witnesses another football coach raping a 10 year old boy in the Penn State shower and when it is reported, nobody calls the police or does anything about it. There is a massive cover-up and the man is allowed to continue coaching and raping and raping and coaching.

Now that these men are being held responsible for their actions and will finally be held accountable for their crimes and negligence and cover-up, there are Penn State fans who place the football program and victory above the law and above what is morally right. They are rioting in the streets, destroying property and threatening the lives of those who have testified against those who have obviously done wrong.

What are they thinking? What are they learning at Penn State? What are they NOT learning at Penn State?

Wall Street Protesters Are Hypocrites

Today I read that the Occupy Protesters are having new problems in addition to the existing problems of lack of sanitation, filth, groping and rape, theft and robbery, drugs, cold and wet weather, flies, rodents, lack of funding, and complete disorganization. Keep in mind that these morons' primary complaint about America is Capitalism. They want Socialism, plain and simple. They want free education, free medical care, free housing, free drugs, no fees, no evil corporations, and no rich people. They want to take from what they call the "1 percent" and give it to the "99 percent". They hate the rich, they hate the police, they hate conservatives, they hate the government, they hate unhealthy and fried foods, and they hate war.

Apparently they DO enjoy the fruits of Capitalism such as laptops, the Internet and IPhones

BUT LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TODAY....

Notice the guy on the right. Is he wearing noise canceling headphones?

Today they got upset when they discovered that there were a large group of homeless people who had joined their encampment and were eating the free food that was being provided to the protesters. Apparently the protestors were being served menus which included "organic chicken and vegetables, spaghetti bolognese, and roasted beet and sheep’s-milk-cheese salad." Rather than eat scraps from garbage cans or discards from local restaurants, these homeless people moved their tents and shopping carts to the protesters' encampment and stood in line for the free food.

"Hey, wait a minute!" yelled the protesters. "You can't eat our food! We prepared and cooked it and you haven't done a thing!"

Do you think any of them ever read the old story about "The Little Red Hen?"

But it gets better yet...

The protesters have now organized their own "security force" to keep the homeless people out of their encampment. And their are using force to keep them out.

If that wasn't enough, the cooks staged a protest against the homeless people and started serving only brown rice and peanut butter sandwiches. That didn't sit well with the hungry protesters who had just returned from a hard days work fighting with police and throwing rocks and spitting on people. They had built up an incredible appetite and were looking forward to some of that organic chicken and goat cheese salad.

I think I remember this same guy from a 1960's War Protest

But the best was yet to come...

Then the protesters authorized their own security force to go around the camp and "inspect" the tents of those they thought might not be real protesters. Based upon the results of the search, these non-protesters were evicted from the camp.

NOW...

I ask you to stand back, with an open mind, and examine what has happened...

1 - These protesters who hate capitalism and greed, are withholding their own food from the poor and needy. While they sit there and eat organic chicken and goat cheese, they expect their homeless neighbors to eat out of trashcans and dumpsters.

2 - These protesters who hate the police and scream at the top of their lungs about "unnecessary force", have organized their own security team and have authorized this group of security people to forcefully prevent homeless people from trespassing in "their" camp. Keep in mind that these protesters have been permitted to camp on private property owned by large corporations that pay their own money for taxes and maintenance and mortgage on the property. Some of these protesters, like the ones I saw this week in San Luis Obispo, are camping on government property that is being paid for and maintained by all of us!

3 - These protesters who hate police and the government that they say is violating their rights to free speech, see nothing wrong with having their own security force break into the tent (or home) of their neighbor to search for evidence that might convince the protesters that these people do not share their political views and thus they need to be evicted from the camp.

These Occupy Protesters are Hypocrites of the highest degree! They do not appreciate or appreciate the freedoms they enjoy as a result of living in this great country of ours, as evidenced by the fact that they are so willing to forbid those same freedoms to those needy people in their neighborhood!

These protesters are selfish, spoiled and raised with an entitlement mentality. Whatever they claim they learned at Harvard or Yale for all the money they willingly borrowed, apparently did not cover such topics as "Do unto others as ye would have them do unto you", or American ideas such as illegal search and seizure.

I had to laugh out loud when I read the line in the article below where one of the protesters complained about being "overworked and underappreciated".

If they have their way and we move closer towards Socialism, they will feel a lot more of the same!

Occupy Mobs Embracing Socialism

It is difficult to believe that these Occupy Mobs have any brains at all. Have they studied the history of the world? What are they learning in their classes at Harvard and other centers of "learning" where their teachers have encouraged them to take off from classes and illegally camp out like homeless people, waving signs that promote socialism at its worst?

With such demands as "Forgive all debt" it is difficult to imagine that any type of rational thought is going on in their empty heads.

Today I heard Jessie Jackson Jr. advocate the idea that the US Government hire all the unemployed in the US and pay them a salary of $40,000 per year until they get jobs. Am I the only one in the world that thinks that is one of the dumbest idea I have ever heard? Jessie Jackson is trying to appeal to the poor of the US and encourage them to envy and be jealous of those who have more than they do. History has numerous examples of what happens when people rise up against the wealthy and destroy the very opportunities that could raise them out of poverty.

I like what Cain said the other day about the Occupy Mobs. He basically said if you are not rich, don't blame anyone but yourself!

Years ago I was in the tiny city of Cambridge, Ohio, and needed to have my shoe repaired. I found a shoe repair shop in town and met the owner. He was a very bitter man who complained that he could hardly make ends meet and was continually in want of basic necessities. Here was a man who owned his own business. He came to work when he wanted and left when he wanted. He could take a break whenever he felt like it. He owned his own machines and set his own prices. I was in his shop to buy his services and pay him for his time and materials. As we talked more, he admitted that he longed for Socialism where there was no ownership, no personal wealth and no incentive to do better or improve your situation. He wanted no rich and no poor. Sadly he was advocating a government where everyone was poor! It was very unfortunate.

How Much Longer Will We Accept the "It's Not My Fault" Excuse?

The other day, a woman in our local neighborhood wrote a scathing letter to the editor of our local newspaper complaining about a policeman who gave her a speeding ticket. She complained that he was hiding behind a tree and that he should have been protecting the city from "real" criminals. She had all the old excuses that we have all heard before, EXCEPT for the one which says, "I was speeding and I deserved to get the ticket."

We have become a society of excuse makers and a society that is not willing to take responsibility for our actions. It starts at the top of our leadership with Mr. Obama, who continues to blame Bush for the state of the economy. "It is not my fault," he says. "It is not his fault," his advisors say. "It is the fault of Bush and Europe, and China and the Republicans," say the Democrats.

We see this "Blame Others" mentality all around us. When you get in a car accident, you immediately hire a lawyer to blame others and maybe make some cash on the side.

When a football team loses a game, it's never their fault. It's the weather, or an injury. It's the fans, or it was due to a bad call by the refs.

When terrorists flew airplanes into the Trade Towers, some went as far as to blame the United States for alienating the terrorists and making them hate us.

Recently Michael Jackson's doctor (who was being paid $150,000 per month) claimed that it wasn't his fault that Jackson died. He claims that Michael administered the lethal doses of propofol to himself.

The person who painted this line on the highway blamed the tree branch for forcing him to paint the line around it.

NOW...

If we really intend to fix what is wrong with the United States economy and the government and immigration and the criminal court system and education and taxes and transportation and everything else that needs fixing....

We first need to recognize that we have a problem and we need to stop blaming others for our mistakes!

Nothing will ever get fixed until we take responsibility for our actions!

CNN's Jack Cafferty Fails Logic Test on Poor States' Voting Record

I read a piece by CNN's Jack Cafferty (ref. below) about the fact that the 10 poorest states in America have tended to vote Republican in the most recent elections. Poor Jack must have missed some important years in school when they taught about simple logic and reasoning. He also failed to do some simple research on Google which would have educated him on the reasons for their voting records.

First of all, a simple lesson in logic and reasoning. Fact: A man was speeding and got in an accident. One might conclude that he got in an accident because he was speeding, or as Cafferty might conclude, he was speeding because he was in an accident. There is a significant difference in the two conclusions.

Jack's baseless conclusion about the poor states, and one that was enjoyed by many of his fellow illogical readers is that the states are poor because they vote Republican. That conclusion is completely 180 degrees from what the facts show. The more logical conclusion is that they vote Republican because they are poor or the truth may be that their economic situation has nothing at all to do with how they vote. Let's quickly examine the facts. (Ref Voting History of States)

These states have traditionally voted exclusively Democrat from the Civil War and the late 1800's until well into the later part of the 20th century. And the fact is that they were poor after the Civil War and they remained poor despite voting Democrat all those years. Finally in the 1964 election, Mississippi began to vote Republican during the Civil Rights struggle after Kennedy was shot. Then in 1976, North and South Caroline began to vote Republican. The rest of the poorest states switched to Republican in the 1992 and 1996 elections, when Clinton was elected President. These states are trying to turn their economies around and they realize that it is not going to happen if they vote Democrat.

In order to improve their economy they had to stop voting Democrat, which encouraged the poor to remain poor. A good example is Mississippi. If you examine the data on the poorest state of Mississippi you will see how much their economy has improved over the last 20 years. Significant changes occurred in the 90's and again in 2006. They are doing much better since they began to vote Republican.

Whether or not Jack Cafferty comprehends it, the problem right now is not with the poor states, as they struggle to reverse 100 years of Democrat Party rule. The problem today is with the more wealthy states which currently vote Democrat like California, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York and especially Illinois. These are the states which are heading for the poor house. For example, the people of California have voted Democrat since 1992 and are currently on the brink of going bankrupt. These are the people who fail to understand basic economics about borrowing and living within their means. Maybe the worst of all is Illinois which has changed from the center of ecomonic prosperity to nearly a dead state.

So shame on you Jack Cafferty for your failure to use correct logic and shame on you for not doing your homework before writing. Hopefully your next article will reflect correct reasoning and better research.

What's Up With These Rich Liberals?

Don't you just love these rich liberals like George Soros, John Kerry, Warren Buffett and the ever popular John Edwards, as they promote higher taxes for everyone but themselves? I was briefly impressed by Warren Buffett the other day when he told the liberal media that he thought that he (himself) should pay higher taxes. But then the very next moment I heard that he was in the midst of a court battle with the IRS over a couple of million dollars in back taxes that he didn't want to pay. So much for advice from Warren Buffett on paying taxes.

Today George Soros said that we are already in a Recession due to the Republicans House's lack of cooperation with our Nobel Prize winning president Obama. He is another one who advocates that everyone pay higher taxes to save the economy. Do you see him writing any extra checks to the government to help lower the deficit? I don't think you will.

Nobody in their right mind wants to pay higher taxes, including the wealthy liberals. But if an extremely rich person really wanted to help reduce the national debt, they could do everyone a big favor by writing out a nice fat check to the IRS. Too bad it won't be tax deductible.

America Invents Act of 2011 - Another Obama Trick!

On September 16, President Obama signed into law, the American Invents Act. It is another step by the liberals to destroy the qualities that have made America great by trying to make the US more like socialized Europe! In 1776 America declared independence from our European fathers and now Obama and his cronies are undoing the work for which our Founding Fathers spilt their precious blood. Let me explain...

Until September 16, and Obama’s American Invents Act, Americans were awarded patents based upon what is called “First to Invent” where patents were awarded to “the first and true inventor” as described in the patent acts of 1790 and 1793. These laws supported and clarified Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution. In 1813 the US Supreme Court upheld these laws and guaranteed the patent rights “to the inventor from the moment of invention.”

A wonderful example of the value of these laws was the invention of the Electronic Television by a young Mormon farm boy named Philo Taylor Farnsworth. Born in 1906 in a log cabin near Beaver, Utah, Philo was always interested in electronics. One day as he was plowing his family farm, the back and forth motion of the plow across the field gave him the idea for using a series of lines to electronically scan an image. In 1922 at the age of 15, Philo approached his high school science teacher, Justin Tolman, and drew for him a drawing on the blackboard of how his invention would work.

Later in his life, the giant electronic company RCA tried to claim that they had invented the television before Philo. Fortunately for Philo, his science teacher, Mr. Tolman was there to testify in court of the fact that Philo was the “first to invent” the television based upon the blackboard drawings. RCA lost the court challenge in 1935 including an appeal in 1936. All the power and money and resources of a giant corporation like RCA could not take away Philo’s right to his invention.

That is until Obama and his cronies and the “American Invents Act.”

Under this new law, US patents will no longer be awarded based upon “first to invent” but instead they will follow the more “sophisticated” European laws which award patents based upon “first to file” for the patent. Under Obama’s new law, it wouldn’t matter that Philo showed his design to his science teacher. What matters with Obama’s new law, is only who was the first to file for the patent.

Because this new law violates the Patent Acts of 1790 and 1793 as well as the intent of Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution, many legal scholars believe this new law is unconstitutional. I happen to agree with them.

However, based upon previous unconstitutional actions of President Obama, including declaring war on Lybia, ObamaCare, and many others, I don’t think there will be any consequences for yet another violation of the US Constitution. Not only will this new law, hurt engineers and inventors, but it will have a negative impact on the economy, unemployment and jobs, as well as the technical greatness of the United States of America. But what does Obama care? He refuses to put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem and continues to do everything he can to destroy everything that has made this country great! Hopefully Americans across this great nation will see through his lies and vote him out in 2012!

Media Cries "THE SKY IS FALLING!!!"

The other night I watched a news report from the east coast where a reporter took shelter from hurricane Irene standing in a corner next to a building. As he reported how bad things were and how he was lucky to have shelter, the cameraman caught site of a man in the background walking his dog down the street. Before the reporter could complete his report, another man calmly road by on a bicycle.

As a small child I remember the story of Chicken Little who ran around shouting "The Sky is Falling...The Sky is Falling!!"

Then there was the story about the little boy crying "Wolf" until nobody believed him anymore.

I guess the media is suffering from a bad economy as well as everyone else in America (except of course for the Obama family on vacation). The media is using the Irene crisis to increase their ratings and business.

The media and the government should save their "wolf!" warnings for real emergencies instead of for exaggerations such as Irene, and Global Warming.

Global Warming Predictions Use Same Computer Models

Predicting the future has always been tough to do. If you were good at it, people considered you to be a "Prophet" like Moses or Isaiah. Recently some weather scientists at NASA have spent millions of our tax dollars to build giant computer models that predict weather far into the future. In fact they claim to be able to predict air and water temperatures more than 20 years into the future. These computer models are the very ones which the scientists have used to determine the cause of what they have called "Global Warming". Based upon these models, they claim that man is causing the temperature of the Earth to increase, and that if we spend trillions of dollars, we can change the temperature of the Earth!
This past week America watched as these scientists put their computer models to the test. A hurricane was fast approaching the east coast of the United States, and it was named "Irene". The liberal media helped build the hype and anticipation of disaster as they predicted death and destruction for thousands of people. Each hour of each day we saw computer generated plots of where Irene was headed and how strong the winds would be. President Obama cut his vacation short to take charge of the Hurricane Command Center and sit in the big stuffed command control center chair with his name plate proudly displayed in front of him. "It is going to be a tough 72 hours!" he predicted and added, "This storm will affect a lot of Americans."
Finally the storm hit the coast of North Caroline. Newscasters broadcast their terrifying reports as they huddled near buildings. But in the background the cameraman picked up a man riding a bike calmly down the street, and couple walking their dog. Maybe it wasn't as bad as the computer models had predicted?
When the truth came out that winds barely reached 40mph, the media was forced to admit that things were not as bad as they had reported. Now the blame game has started and government scientists are making excuses about what they got wrong and taking credit for what they got right. (Check out the links below)

Goodbye California - We Knew Thee Too Well!

I think the LA Times said it best when they referred to California as “A State in the rearview mirror”. The huge unemployment, heavy tax burden, dropping house prices, accessive regulations and codes, as well as the worst economic position in the United States have taken their toll. As a result of this oppressive environment, people, businesses, and families are leaving the state in droves!

I have lived in Southern California all my life. I was born in North Hollywood and spent my childhood in the San Fernando Valley under the plume of smoke and thunder from the rocket engines being tested nearby for the Apollo moon program. There was never a shortage of funds for schools. Every year we had brand new textbooks and I was even provided exercise classes to help with my flat feet. When I was ten years old my parents moved our family west into Thousand Oaks where I would spend the next 48 years watching California become more liberal, more oppressive, and more expensive. My wife was also from California and we raised our family in the same home town where we grew up. Our children attended California schools and tried to learn, despite the liberal teaching methods that met with disastrous results. The companies for which I worked struggled to survive California’s increasing tax burden and heavy regulations and codes.

Finally our children left the state to attend college. They are married and have their own families with children of their own. But you know what? They chose not to live in California. Even my parents left the state to live out their retired years somewhere else. All my six brothers and sisters moved away leaving my wife and I the last of our family in what was once the golden state of California.

Despite the exodus of our families, my wife and I chose to remain in California since I had a secure job and we had a nice home where the weather was always wonderful. But each year the taxes got higher and my employer found it harder to survive. Our home water bills skyrocketed when the government decided it was more important to protect a Sacramento sardine than to grow crops and provide drinking water for the population. Oppressive regulations drove up the cost of gasoline and electricity and natural gas. Other services which rely on those commodities passed their increased costs onto the consumer, and up went the cost of food, trash, and sewer, phone and other services. As California protected the influx of illegal aliens and provided them with free health care and paid them to attend our colleges and universities, the cost of our health care went up 15 to 20 percent per year.

Each year I watched the “do gooders” in Sacramento dream up even more oppressive schemes. Two years ago they passed a law that required all new home heating and air conditioning units be equipped with radio receivers so that the politicians could control our home air temperatures from Sacramento. We have forced recycling, mandatory water conservation, tiered costs for electricity to encourage conservation, and vapor recovery systems on all gas stations to capture gas fumes that might escape into the atmosphere. Half the output of our automobile engines is diverted to run smog equipment. We pay fees on soda bottles, fees for used oil, and fees for old car tires.

To increase the cost of living further, California’s public employees are some of the highest paid in the country due to public employee unions which are paid from our tax dollars. Retired public employees make far more money than they did when they were working. They buy boats and airplanes, new homes and rental property.

Gangs fueled by illegal aliens have become a major problem for the public and for law enforcement. The gangs cover the city with their graffiti, and they murder at will. The liberal court system that should have protected the public, chose instead to protect the rights of those who defied the law and who thumbed their noses at law enforcement.

Even the government has no regard for the law. When the majority of Californians voted to protect marriage with Proposition 8, the governor himself defied the will of the people and encouraged the courts to overturn the law.

Despite all of this, my wife and I remained in California because I had a good job and we loved the weather and our beautiful home with neighbors and friends.

Then one day it happened.....

My employer of 28+ years called me into his office and laid me off. I was now unemployed at the age of 58, living in one of the most expensive and most oppressive states in America, surrounded by illegal aliens, and gangs. To us the choice seemed simple indeed.

We decided that we will sell our home and move out of California to another state. We will choose a state where the costs are lower, where the law is enforced, where water is plentiful and tastes good. We will choose a state where it is safe to walk around the neighborhood at night without fear of being robbed or mugged. We want a state where the rights of citizens and businesses are more important than the rights of sardines and illegal aliens. We will look for a place where a citizen can buy a gun and ammunition. We will consider a state where the government will not control the temperature of our home, but would feel a responsibility to teach children in school, instead of providing them free lunches and a place to play electronic games.

Sadly my wife and I are not alone. According to the LA Times, more people, families and businesses are leaving California than are entering. The trend has been consistent for the past four years and is increasing. So my wife and I will be moving soon. Our house is for sale, but the price is dropping each week as the housing market is tanking and fewer people are moving to the once golden state of California.

We will just be relieved to see California in our rearview mirror.

Obama Needed A Crisis

I was suspicious when I first heard government predictions of a giant hurricane that was headed for the east coast of the United States. I could see the media drooling over the prospect of death and destruction. It had been so long since we had a real hurricane and the government had been promising a big one for so many years. The government needed a hurricane to safe face with the American people.

Then there was Obama and his sinking popularity. The economy was tanking and all the indicators were headed in the wrong direction. Debt and unemployment were increasing. American confidence and hope were in a nose dive.

So what does Obama do?

He and his family go on a vacation!

Isn't that what most Americans do when they are in debt and the economy looks bad?

NO! That is absolutely NOT what Americans do. They tighten their belts and reduce spending or maybe even take a second job. (It just shows you how out of touch Obama is with normal Americans.

Once Obama was on vacation and the media compared his golfing and eating to normal Americans who were out of work (like yours truly) and suffering financially, his approval rating dropped even further.

Then along comes Irene!

The liberal media and the government immediately began to build up the potential danger and likelihood of death and destruction. My how they began to salivate. We heard predictions of high winds and flooding. Three storm related deaths were reported even before the storm arrived in the US. No explanation of what Irene had to do with their deaths. Were they surfers riding the big waves? Did they fall in the bathtub? Was it possible that they died as a result of the stress caused by irresponsible storm reporting by the media? Who knows?

Here was the chance that Obama needed to boost his sagging popularity. He immediately cut his vacation short and took up residence in the Irene Storm Command Center. In the padded command center control chair, Obama told the staff that this was going to be a rough 72 hours and that he was there to reduce the impact of the storm.

By the time Irene hit the coast of North Dakota, the hurricane center was reporting sustained winds of 80+ miles were hour.

[Wait a minute. Does that qualify as a hurricane or just a tropical storm? No matter!]

People freaked out as the government imposed mandatory evacuations and threatened to arrest those who refused to leave their homes. Grocery store shelves were stripped bare by the panic'd public.

FINALLY THE STORM HIT LAND!!!!!

But instead of seeing death and destruction, or hurricane winds and flooding, the local weather reports were of only 30 mile an hour winds. The massive storm Irene had fizzled out. The eye of the storm was disappearing and the winds were dying out. It turned out to be nothing more than a normal tropical storm.

Now comes the embarrassment and the "blame others" and the excuses from the media and the government.

But where is Obama?

He is still sitting in his padded hurricane control command center hoping that things will get worse so he can use yet another crisis to bolster his popularity and save his failing presidency.

But we see through it all. Obama is the worst president we have ever had in the United States.

On Paper the Solution is Simple!

According to the S&P, the reason they downgraded the US from AAA TO AA+ was due to the following ratio:

Debt/GNP (where GNP is Gross National Product shown in the graph below)

Notice the drop in GNP since Obama took office around 2008!

They say that they want it to be less than or equal to 73%.

Now let's look at how the US debt is changing over time, especially since Obama took office:

The next day after the debt limit was raised by Obama, the government immediately (in ONE DAY!) borrowed more than 100% of our GNP.

NO WONDER THE S&P DOWNGRADED THE US RATING!

Now what is the solution? How can we get the Debt/GNP ratio lower?

Mathematically the answer is very simple. You can either decrease the debt, increase the GNP or do both.

With the economy the way it is and businesses hurting financially and laying people off, it is difficult to increase the GNP.

The only solution is to decrease the amount of debt. But how do you do that?

Here again, mathematically the answer is simple. You can increase your intake, decrease your spending, or do both.

The Democrats' solution is to increase our intake. This is done by raising taxes. However that hurts businesses who produce jobs and create the wealth that increases the GNP. If you increase taxes you are basically having a negative impact on the GNP, which is the opposite of what we are trying to do (see above). If you could somehow extract new taxes from the people in a fair and equitable way, it might help the problem. For example there are some very rich people who "claim" that they would be more than happy to pay higher taxes. I say, "What is stopping you?"

Other's like Bill O'Reilly on Fox News have proposed a more equitable tax code. That is something I would suggest as well. Maybe a flat tax rate of 10% to 20%, for example.

The other solution and the one that is supported by the Tea Party is to cut expenses. That is another solution that I support. Get rid of the fat government, excessive pensions, the waste, the fraud, the free cell phones, and Obamacare. Remember, retired people don't need more money after they retire than they did when they were working!!!

S&P Lowers US Rating to AA+

You might think that the Liberals would finally get the message about the debt with the recent action of the S&P downgrade. But NO!!!! Harry Reid was in the news this morning blasting the Republicans and demanding higher taxes for the rich, for businesses, and especially those companies that have corporate jets. No mention at all of decreasing spending! There is only one solution to them and it is to increase revenue to match the increased spending.

I have several friends who are retired. They all collect fat pensions, along with social security, have all their health costs paid for through Medicare and are living the good life. No change in lifestyle at all. One bought a new fishing boat, and another is buying a new and bigger house. One has an airplane and the list goes on and on. They clearly have more money than they did when they were working.

The state of Pennsylvania just decided that the poor in their state get free cell phones and 250 free minutes.

I have a neighbor who voted for Obama in 2008 and still proudly displays the campaign sign in his garage.

Don't these people get it? I just don't understand.

We have an incompetent person as our president. He is not a Christian. He hates America, and refuses to respect the flag or our country. He hates Israel. He is a socialist and wants to redistribute the nation's wealth so that everyone has the same.

But he is not alone. There are millions of Americans who believe as he does, that the poor are entitled to cell phones, cars, TVs, homes and wealth at the expense of those Americans who work hard each day to pay the bills.

While I agree that we need to take care of our poor and the elderly and sick, it needs to be done out of love and charity.

I was listening to an audio tape of Robin Hood the other day. Here was a hero who we always hear about who took form the rich and gave to the poor. But then I listened to one of the scenes where Robin is taking money from a rich person. He emptied the guy's purse and takes half and returns half to the rich man. He claimed it was like a tax of sorts. It is important to note that Robin took less from this man than the US government takes from me. And I am not rich!

Why don't Harry Reid, Obama and the other liberals see what they are doing to our country? And if they don't believe what the conservatives are telling them, why don't they simply look at what is happening in European countries like Greece, and Germany and France and even England?

It is a "No Brainer"!

Viewing US Flag Produces Republican Bias

Recent studies by four major universities have shown that simply viewing an American Flag tends to produce Republican Party bias. It is important to note that it does NOT produce Democratic Party bias, only Republican Party bias. Read more about the specific findings below as reported in the US News and World Report:

"A single exposure to an American flag resulted in a significant increase in participants' Republican voting intentions, voting behavior, political beliefs, and implicit and explicit attitudes, with some effects lasting 8 months," the study found. "These results constitute the first evidence that nonconscious priming effects from exposure to a national flag can bias the citizenry toward one political party and can have considerable durability."

"In contrast to the beliefs of the participants in the pilot study, the results from the experiments reported here show that exposure to the American flag introduces a bias toward the Republican Party over the Democratic Party. In one experiment, we tested whether subtle exposure to the American flag shifted people's beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors toward the Republican end of the political continuum. We found that a single exposure to a small American flag during deliberation about voting intentions prior to a general election led to significant and robust changes in participants' voting intentions, voting behavior, and political attitudes, all in the politically conservative direction."

"It is important to note that political ideology and party affiliation did not moderate these effects. That is, both liberal and conservative participants were influenced by the flag prime, and in the same (conservative) direction," said the study.

To prove the shocking results, the scholars in the spring of 2010 conducted another test, this time to see if exposure to an American flag produces a bias toward Republicanism, rather than the party that controls the White House. For this, they showed some pictures of buildings that included a flag, and others photos with the flag digitally erased.

That result: "Subtle exposure to the American flag significantly shifted both Democratic and Republican participants' beliefs, attitudes, and voting behavior toward Republicanism."

The three key findings of those attending July 4th celebrations:

When done before the age of 18, it increases the likelihood of a youth identifying as a Republican by at least 2 percent.
It raises the likelihood that parade watchers will vote for a Republican candidate by 4 percent.
It boosts the likelihood a reveler will vote by about 1 percent and increases the chances they'll make a political contribution by 3 percent.

What's more, the impact isn't fleeting. "Surprisingly, the estimates show that the impact on political preferences is permanent, with no evidence of the effects depreciating as individuals become older,"said the Harvard report.

Finally, the report suggests that if people are looking for a super-patriotic July 4th, though should head to Republican towns. "Republican adults celebrate Fourth of July more intensively in the first place."

Now how will the findings of these studies impact our way of life in the United States? I may be a little paranoid, but I can easily see the following changes in the not to far distant future:

- American Flags will be banned within viewing distance of voting places.
- Visual images of the American Flag will not be allowed on government documents.
- Saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag will be forbidden by law in the United States.

and the worst of all....

- It will be unlawful to display the American Flag in the US Capital Building when the House or Senate is in session and especially when voting. It will also be unlawful to display the American Flag in the Supreme Court.

I suspect there will be no change with respect to what Democrats think of the American Flag, especially Mr. Obama, who has shown disdain for America and its flag even before he was elected President.

Don't Punish The Rich!

"They fly corporate jets."

"They make too much money."

"They need to pay more in taxes."

In light of the fact that 39% of all taxes are paid by the top 1% earners....

In light of the fact that 86% of all taxes are paid by the top 25% earners...

and...

In light of the fact that 97% of all taxes are paid by the top 50% earners...

It is clear that the wealthy are already carrying the heaviest tax burden in America.

What most people fail to realize is that the wealthy are the employers. They are the ones who pay America's salaries and create America's jobs.

If we destroy the wealthy by taxing them so much that they lose their ability to make a profit we will destroy their incentive to form companies that create jobs and pay salaries.

When I was little I remember a story about the goose that laid the golden egg. If we kill the goose, we will have only ourselves to blame for our mess.

Reduce Spending Like Everyone Else in America

The Obama Administration needs to take a lesson from the rest of the regular folks in America when it tries to solve its financial problems.

When a regular family in America finds itself in a situation where it is spending more than it makes, it has the same options as the federal government.

1- It can borrow money

2- It can reduce spending

3- It can obtain more money (i.e. Get a better job with a higher salary)

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that borrowing money is not a long term solution. Many families have tried and eventually they go bankrupt.

Reducing spending can be painful, especially if you are used to a standard of living and you have to cut back on things that are used to having. Just take a look at what is going on in Greece and you will see how painful it can be.

Then there is the third solution; get more money. However, unlike a regular family who can't always get a higher paying job, the government simply raises our taxes to pay for what it wants. This is what Obama wants to do and he told us today that 80% of us agree that he should raise our taxes.

I DON'T REMEMBER TELLING ANYONE THAT I WANT TO PAY HIGHER TAXES!

Where did Obama get this silly statistic that 80% of Americans want to pay higher taxes?#!&*%@

As painful as it will be, we need to reduce our expenses. We need to shrink the size of government, and reduce our demand for government services. This will be painful and people will complain.

Medicare benefits may be reduced.
Social Security increases may be lower.
Kids may have to bring lunches from home instead of having the government pay for them.
Government pensions may not be as high.
The Obama family may have to cut back on international vacations.
Government officials may have to fly coach instead of flying in their own military jets.
We may have to cut back on silly government funding research projects.
Maybe women will have to pay for their own abortions.
Maybe prisoners won't get viagra or get to have their own large screen TVs.

Yes it will be painful, BUT if we are going to save America from the same fate as Greece and other European countries who are on the brink of going bankrupt, we must reduce spending.

There is really no other way to solve the problem!!!

How Does It Feel to be Unemployed?

Ever since my first job as a newspaper delivery boy in the 60's I have always had a job. After the paper, I worked for McDonalds fast food and then I had a job at a bike shop in Provo, Utah. Following my mission for the LDS Church, I returned to McDonalds where I supported my wife and two sons while I attended college. I can't forget the short stint as a research assistant at BYU. Then came the REAL employment after I graduated from college. It lasted nearly four years until my first layoff in 1983. Within a few days I got another job with a higher salary and better benefits. I stayed with that company for over 28 years until I was laid off last week. They told me that my position "had been eliminated" and there was no need for someone with my skills. Part of me was angry because I did not believe what they were telling me. However, another part of me was excited as I wondered what the future would hold for me and my family.

Now I find myself among the ranks of thousands of other unemployed citizens of the United States. I can now say from personal experience that I know how it feels to be out of work.

As an engineering manager for over 25 years, I have witnessed dozens of layoffs first hand. In all cases but one, the layoff forced the employees to make decisions they normally would not have made. They were forced to take risks outside of their comfort zone. And in all but the one case, the employees quickly were back on their feet, with a new job, with a higher salary, better benefits and a new beginning.

And so I share that same optimism today. My family and I are excited about the possibilities before us. We have even discussed the possibility of moving and even changing professions. With this layoff we begin a new chapter of our life and we are optimistic about the future.

Obama Is Breaking the Law - Doesn't Anyone Care?!#@!%*

I read this morning that a recent campaign add for Obama for the 2012 election was filmed in the White House. The evidence is in the photos themselves unless Obama moved his White House furniture including lamps, pictures to an outside studio.

What he did was against the law, pure and simple.

Why doesn't anyone care? Why is the media silent?

Then there is the example of the military action in Libya. The president again has broken the law. He has deployed US military to attack Libya and has killed people, destroyed property, and spent hundreds of millions of dollars of money that the US is borrowing from China to do all of that...all without agreement of the US government.

Is the president repentant? Does he correct his mistakes?

NO!!!! He is totally defiant and unrepentant!

This must stop! The US is a country of law! The president does not have the right to do what ever he wants to do with complete disregard for the law. He must be held accountable!!!! Obama is not our king!!!

Greece Foreshadows The Future of America Run By Socialist Liberals Like Obama

A reporter interviewed a protestor on the street in Greece. He was protesting the cuts in services that the country is finally having to make to keep their country from falling into financial ruin. "We don't owe any money, it's the others who stole it," said 69-year-old demonstrator Antonis Vrahas. "We're resisting for a better society for the sake of our children and grandchildren."

We are witnessing the downfall of one of the oldest countries of the world; Greece. The country is burdened by crushing debt brought about by years of living beyond their means and borrowing money to pay for luxuries that have now become the norm. Greece has become a society of citizens who believe they are entitled to these luxuries.

This reminds me a lot of a lot of other countries including Germany, France, England, etc., etc, and ......we must not forget our own United States of America.

These people have lost touch with reality! They truly do not understand that the government cannot take care of them. Do they believe that money grows on trees? Do they really think that all of these services are rights to be demanded?

I remember watching Bill Clinton respond to a young girl's question about where the money was coming from to pay for his proposed medical plan. Like so many in our society, he really believed what he said when he told this little girl that some comes from taxes paid by the people and the rest came from the government!

The government does not have any money but what he takes from its citizens!!!!

These morons in Greece and Wisconsin don't seem to understand that we are running out of money! They storm the government buildings and demand that they retain their high pensions and their salaries and their benefits, without regard for where they think that money comes from.

You can watch this same debate right now in the US government as the Republicans are trying desperately to cut spending. And we all must realize that it will HURT! We cannot continue to live beyond our means. If we do we will end up just like Greece, with riots in the street.

King Obama Doesn't Need Permission to Go To War

Who does he think he is? Now King Obama is claiming (see link below) that he does not need Congressional Approval to go to war with Libya because the role of the United States was "limited". Apparently he believes that means he can continue this "limited" role as long as he desires.

And the liberal media is letting him get away with all of this? But exactly what is he calling a "limited war"? Simply this: Shooting dozens of million dollar cruise missiles from ships and subs off shore, bombing a sovereign country's military sites, shooting their aircraft, their military vehicles and personnel, as well as bombing the country's infrastructure. Doesn't sound too "limited" to me.

Chicago School Bans Lunches From Home

Big Brother is at it again! Since Mrs. Obama and her husband's government know more about what is best for us than we do, they have taken another step towards total control of our lives.

Believe or not, an elementary school in Obama's city of Chicago has banned students from bringing lunches from home. That's right! No more homemade lunches at that school, unless you have a note from your doctor. The school claims they are protecting the kids from making bad choices about food for lunch. Gone are the days when kids carried their lunch boxes to school with a thermos full of milk or juice. Gone are the days of peanut butter sandwiches made by loving mothers who wrapped them in wax paper or a plastic bag to keep them fresh. Gone are the homemade cookies. Gone are the snack size bags of potato chips. Gone are the carrot and celery sticks. Gone are the 1/2 pint cartons of milk for 5 cents. Gone are the bologna sandwiches on whole wheat bread.

After all.....Mrs. Obama and the liberal government know better what you should be eating.

When I was a kid growing up in Los Angeles, only the rich kids could afford to eat in the cafeteria at school. Back then it cost 35 cents to eat in the cafeteria. I never ate in the cafeteria because we couldn't afford it. I remember once when my mom was in the hospital and my dad was sick in bed. Each day my dad would give me a quarter and a dime so I could eat at school, since he was in no shape to get up and make a lunch for me. I remember standing in line for my lunch with all the rich kids. My poor friends were so envious of me as I held my 35 cents while the line moved slowly towards the cafeteria door. Finally I get inside and received a plastic tray with my meal, a paper napkin, and my eating utensils. I remember so well the "wonderful" meal that I sat on my tray before me. I remember the square block of red or green jello, the block of some type of casserole, a spoonful of green beans and a glass of milk. Then on Friday we had fish sticks, and I never knew the reason why.

Normally my mom would send me to school with my metal lunch box which contained a peanut butter and honey sandwich, a couple of homemade cookies (if I was lucky), and an apple or other piece of fruit. Sometimes I had pieces of carrots or celery.

Today things are different, especially in Chicago. All the kids have to go through the cafeteria which provides wholesome food selected by Mrs. Obama and her liberal government friends. Their meal choices include wonderful and healthy dishes such as tofu, pasta and veggie balls, minestrone soup, mung beans, and lentils. Yum, Yum!

The Government Leech Has Outgrown Its Host

The United States government has now grown to such an extent that it dwarfs the size of all other US jobs combined! As the Wall Street Journal correctly reported "We've Become a Nation of Takers, Not Makers"! What are the implications of this situation? What does it mean to us and to future generations of Americans? What does it mean to our children and our grandchildren? Let me give you a quick look into the future....

First you must understand that the government does not generate revenue. Nobody pays for the services of the government. The government is like a giant leech stuck to the side of a living body and all it does it TAKE nutrients from its host. And WE are the host from which this giant leech is sucking life giving blood. When the government needs revenue, it simply taxes us and takes our money. With the all-powerful Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and their gun toting agents, we are helpless to stop this sucking. They simply take what they need, and as they grow and their needs grow, so does the taxing and the sucking.

At first we didn't mind the sucking because the leeches were small and they weren't sucking that much of our blood, but according to the data reported this morning in the Wall Street Journal, the LEECH HAS NOW BECOME BIGGER THAN ITS HOST!

Imagine in your mind a giant leech attached the side of a small fish. The fish eats and eats so that it can stay alive. Not only must it supply its own needs, but it must also eat enough food to support the giant sucking leech. As the leech grows, it finally overpowers the smaller host so that the host dies. It can longer support the huge sucking appetite of the leech.

That has finally happened in the United States. The sucking government leech is now larger than its host. The private sector jobs must now support a government that is larger than itself.

Why are the American people allowing this to happen? Why don't they pull the leech off their back and throw it back into the river? I guess it is because the government grows at such a rate that they haven't really noticed how big it has gotten. I also believe that people don't understand this basic leech concept. I am reminded of an interview that President Clinton gave just after he became president.

President Clinton was being asked questions by young school children. One little black girl asked the following question:

"How will the government pay for all the things that it is going to do for the people?"

A very simple and logical question from such a young person. (Perhaps an adult had helped her prepare the question.) But no matter. It was still an excellent question.

Now how did our intelligent president respond? His answer was an indication of how stupid or ignorant our society has become. He stood there and with a straight face, he said to the little girl and all the people of America...

"Well, some of the money will come from taxes, and some will come from the government."

And where do you suppose the government gets its money, Mr. President? Maybe you think it grows on trees? Or maybe you think that the government just prints it?

Whatever Clinton was thinking the correct response is this....

ALL THE MONEY THAT THE GOVERNMENT USES TO PAY FOR ITS PROGRAMS AND ITS CARS AND AIRPLANES AND WARS, AND TO PAY ITS EMPLOYEES AND ITS STAFF, AND THE UNION BOSSES......IT ALL COMES OUT OF THE POCKETS OF THE HARDWORKING CITIZENS OF AMERICA.

AND EVENTUALLY THE HUGE TAX BURDEN THAT THIS GOVERNMENT LEECH IS SUCKING FROM THE PEOPLE WILL BE TOO MUCH TO BEAR.

THE PEOPLE CAN ONLY GIVE SO MUCH BLOOD BEFORE THE GIANT GOVERNMENT LEECH SUCKS THEM DRY.

We are very close to that day. As the Wall Street Reported this morning, the leech is now larger than its host. If we don't do something to reduce the size and cost of the government this great country of ours is going to whither up and die.

We must vote these liberal spenders out of office if we are to survive.

"Better Performance For Higher Pay"? Unions say NO!

We have still not heard the final outcome in Wisconsin, but the ideas presented by the Republican leadership there are resonating in other states as well. In Ohio for example, the government recently promoted a law which would limit the bargaining rights of government unions in that state as well.

In the referenced article below, one spoiled government employee in Ohio, named Leo Geiger (34), is a sewer inspector in the city of Dayton. He expressed grave concern that this new law "gets rid of automatic pay increases, and replaces them with merit raises or performance pay. " What a strange concept?!@# Can you imagine someone paying you more for being a more productive employee? And even worse... Can you imagine the nerve of your boss to penalize you or pay you less when you do a lousy job?

WHERE DID WE COME UP WITH THE IDEA THAT EVERYONE SHOULD BE PAID THE SAME DESPITE DIFFERENCES IN ABILITY AND PERFORMANCE?

It is creeping into the school system as well. Some liberal educationalists claim it hurts a child's self esteem to give them a "C" grade when others are getting "A"s and "B"s for better performance. Our idiot president, Obama, said this week that schools should reduce or eliminate testing and instead reward students for attendance or participation. Heaven forbid that a kid get rewarded for studying more or working harder than his lazy friend.

But then this is understandable when our children see their parents complain about not getting an "automatic pay increase" or hear them complain that they have to demonstrate competence at work.

Employee unions that promote this type of lunacy are destroying our country and pushing it towards economic ruin. They must be stopped. The states of Wisconsin and now Ohio are brave to be the first to challenge these powerful entities who are backed by powerful politicians like Obama and his corrupt buddies.

VOTE THEM ALL OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND SAVE THIS GREAT COUNTRY!

Protect American Civilians FIRST

This week the United States joined a host of other nations endorsing a “No Fly” zone in Libya and told Muammar Gadhafi and his government to stop killing the “civilians”. Obama’s voice was stern as he gave Gadhafi the ultimatum to comply with the UN resolutions or face military action.

Let’s pause for a short moment and step back for a calm look at what we are really saying.

Who are these civilians that are being so savagely attacked and killed?

You may have seen them on the news. Here is a sample photo.

How about another photo of some of these poor harmless civilians.

How about these three civilians on their way to work?

“No,” you might say to me. “You must be mistaken. Those cannot be civilians. They have artillery and guns and even tanks! How can they be civilians?”

If you did say those things, YOU would be the one who is mistaken! These ARE the civilians that Gadhafi’s military have been fighting for the past few weeks. These are the very civilians that the UN wants to protect. These are the very same civilians that Obama has vowed to save from Muammar Gadhafi.

You see, these civilians are fighting for democracy….for freedoms…for the right of free speech…..for the right to bear arms…..for the same rights that we have become accustomed to in the United States.

THE UNITED STATES AND THE ENTIRE WORLD HAVE COME TOGETHER TO PROTECT THIS BAND OF CIVILIANS FROM A DICTATOR NAMED MUAMMAR GADHAFI.

Now take another deep breath.

The New York Times reported that the Obama administration was prepared to launch a full-frontal assault on the Tea Party movement. (Apparently it is okay for the New York Times to use terms like “full frontal assault” but don’t excuse a conservative for putting cross hairs on a map of the United States.)

Mr. Obama makes fun of these civilians and their cause. He makes jokes about them “waving little tea bags” and how they just complain about his pitiful performance without offering real solutions.

NOW LISTEN HERE, AMERICA!

OUR GOVERNMENT IS ABOUT READY TO BEGIN A NEW WAR. SOME ARE ALREADY CALLING IT “HILLARY’S WAR” BECAUSE SHE HAS BEEN ADVOCATING U.S. INTERVENTION IN LIBYA FOR SOME TIME. THE U.S. MILITARY IS CURRENTLY PREPARING TO INVADE STILL ANOTHER COUNTRY TO SPREAD DEMOCRACY AND TO PROTECT PEOPLE’S RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS.

AND YET HERE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY, WE HAVE A PRESIDENT WHO MOCKS FREEDOM LOVERS AND MAKES FUN OF THE ADVOCATES OF DEMOCRACY. HE STRIVES TO INCREASE THE POWER AND SIZE OF GOVERNMENT. HE IS IN BED WITH POWERFUL UNIONS OF GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES WHO ARE DRAINING OUR COUNTRY DRY WITH EXTRAVAGANT PENSIONS, BENEFITS AND SALARIES. Reduce government spending.

Reduce the size of government.

Eliminate government employee unions.

Help small businesses grow.

Move Federal Programs and spending down to the State level.

And take our country back from the brink of economic and moral ruin!

Japan Is Example For US

As I watched television coverage of the terrible destruction in Japan from the recent Earthquake and subsequent Tsunami, I noticed how calm and well behaved the people of Japan are in light of all that is going on.

There are no riots, there is no looting, that are not even people complaining about lack of power, food and water from the government.

When Katrina hit the southern area of the United States, there was immediate looting and lawlessness. The water had not even finished coming ashore before the news coverage showed people complaining about lack of water, food, from the government. Finger pointing and blame filled the media coverage.

Not so in Japan.

Families, towns, communities and cities of Japanese people are coming together to help each other and their nation. Many of the homeless are sitting on the floor in evacuation centers with their families without complaint.

THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD AND ESPECIALLY OF AMERICA SHOULD LEARN FROM THE JAPANESE IN THIS TERRIBLE CALAMITY.

We Have Become a Nation OF ENTITLEMENTS

As I have watched the news coverage out of Wisconsin it is very sad and discouraging to me. Here is a group of people who refuse to take responsibility for the financial ruin of their state. As the news article below reminds us, entitlements are a way of life for a growing number in our once great nation of the USA. It is never our fault anymore...It is always the fault of someone else.

For many years now as I have been in management, we have watched the cost of our company's medical insurance premiums go up each year. A yearly increase of 15% in a single year is not uncommon. Each year we have to decide what we must do as a company to pay for that increase. Will the increased cost come from our meager company profits, can we pass it over to the employees to pay from their paychecks, or maybe a combination of the two? In many years, our company president agreed to absorb the increase and reduce company profits. The employees gratefully accepted that decision. Then there were other years when we passed some of the increase off to the employees. Of course none of them were happy about it, but it never occurred to me that they might protest, call in sick to work, and picket in front of our company's entrance.

What we have in Wisconsin, and I am sure in many other states (especially in California), is a bunch of spoiled government workers who are represented by public employee unions and who for years have used collective bargaining to negotiate their above average pay, their excellent medical benefits, and their incredible pensions. They have grown used to it and now it is the norm. They have had it for so long that now they feel they are "entitled" to these benefits.

They give no thought to the fact that their neighbors are footing the bill and the high costs of all this luxury. They feel it is theirs and that they are entitled to it.

All of these issues are very close to my heart.

I think I understand how these people feel. You see I grew up in a home where my wonderful father was a school teacher in Los Angeles. While I appreciated the wonderful medical benefits that our large family enjoyed, I didn't understand who was paying for it. I didn't understand the concept of "tenure" until years later. I also did not appreciate how pensions worked nor did I, as a young child, understand how much it costs to live after retirement if you have no income.

Later as an adult out on my own, I had a short discussion with my dear father about tenure. I told him that where I worked as an engineer in a large aerospace company there was no such thing as tenure. My dad was surprised.

"How do you keep them from laying you off?" was his sincere question to me.

I responded to him that if I worked hard, and if I was a valuable employee to the company and IF the company could afford to pay me, I would likely not be laid off. I told him that furthermore there was always the possibility I could be terminated at any time. It was something I had to live with. It didn't sound fair to my father, and there are many who would agree with him.

My father was also a member of the teachers union. He had to pay union dues from every paycheck. He even went on strike once and ended up loosing over a month's pay. I remember him telling me that the strike had not been worth the cost to our family and that he would never go on strike again. That strike also had another cost....the damage to friendships of those who could not or would not join him on the picket line, especially the friendships of administrators, and non-teachers whose burdens became nearly unbearable during that strike.

Today my dear dad, along with thousands of other retired government employees lives comfortably in a nice warm home, with all his medical needs paid for. He gets a pension check each month, that allows him to pay his way.

I have several friends who are retired civil servants. They have told me that they are making more money being retired than they ever did while they were working. They buy new cars and new homes, and maybe a boat. One just bought an airplane.

I have another friend whose son just got a job working as a government researcher who studies dolphins. Just after his son got hired by the government, he became ill and had to be hospitalized. My friend explained to me how great the medical insurance was and that his son was able to take off so much time from work until he was fully recovered. I could only sit and listen as I felt the federal government reaching into my own pocket taking part of my paycheck to pay for the study of dolphins and this man's recovery.

WE ALL MUST SHARE THE BLAME FOR WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THIS GREAT COUNTRY. WE ARE IN GREAT DEBT AND IT IS GETTING WORSE EACH DAY AS THE INTEREST PAYMENTS PILE UP. WE MUST REDUCE THE COST OF GOVERNMENT!! THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT MAKING IT WORSE.

EVERYONE MUST SHARE THE BLAME AND EVERYONE MUST CONTRIBUTE TO THE SOLUTION AND THAT INCLUDES GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES AND MEMBERS OF UNIONS!!

THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT ENTITLED TO ANYTHING ESPECIALLY OTHER PEOPLE'S HARD EARNED MONEY. THEY NEED TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY TO HELP SOLVE THE FINANCIAL CRISIS THAT COULD DESTROY OUR FREEDOMS AND OUR COUNTRY!

Government Grows AGAIN Under Obama

Under the Obama administration the bloated and debt ridden Federal Government has recently decided to expand even further. They have decided to start a new business that will compete directly with numerous private industries. Since the federal government has done so well with Amtrak, the US Post Office, Social Security, Medicare, education, and border security, they feel confident that they can now move into the development and manufacture of drugs (see reference below).

On a recent vacation with my wife I asked the Amtrak Manager how our 3 hour trip from San Luis Obispo to Oxnard could be 7 hours late? His response made complete sense.

"You have to understand sir, Amtrak is run by the Federal Government."

The guy knew what he was saying. It was never the intention of our founding fathers to have the Federal Government compete with private businesses in running trains, manufacturing automobiles, delivering packages, teaching our children and now manufacturing drugs.

The Federal Government has a documented history of failure when it comes to running businesses. And to me the reason is clear.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOES NOT HAVE TO COMPETE FOR REVENUE WHICH IS THE BASIS OF COMPETITION IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR.

IF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT NEEDS MORE MONEY, THEY SIMPLY INCREASE OUR TAXES.

Need More Proof That Californians Have Lost Their Minds? - Here It Is!

I have lived in California nearly all my life except for the few years I left to attend college and also when I left to serve two years on a LDS Church Mission. I believe that the people of California are essentially good people who want to do the right things and to help their fellowmen. But on the other hand, as I see how they vote on important issues and completely reject common economic sense, I must admit that they may have completely Lost Their Minds!

Consider a few of the 725 new laws that Californians' elected leaders voted to go into effect in 2011:

AB119 - This law prevents insurance companies from charging different rates for men and women for identical coverage.
In this law you can plainly see Californians' desire for fairness. They want to treat people equally. However, since the dawn of time, insurance companies have gathered statistics that show that women have fewer accidents than men. Thus the rates for men, especially young men, have been higher. The insurance companies make their living off statistics and base their rates on them. Now that the government has created this new law, the insurance industry must abandon statistics and decide whether to increase the rates for women, or to reduce the coverage for men. Either way, the public are losers.

SB782 - This law prevents landlords from evicting tenants who are victims of domestic abuse or stalking.
Here again, you can see the goodness and the kindness of Californians and their desire to help those in need. But now consider what happens to the poor landlord who rents to a victim of domestic abuse. This woman can now refuse to pay rent and may stay in the property forever. And believe me, this will certainly happen in California. I had a friend who rented an apartment to a woman who never paid rent after she moved into the apartment. When my friend approached her about paying him, she said she had no intention of paying him rent and that she would move out only if he paid HER $4000. She said she had the "right" to be evicted and that she would be willing to give up that right for $4000. The Ventura County DA upheld her claim and my friend finally was able to get her to leave for a reduced amount of $2500. Such a deal!? If only she had the added benefit of being a victim of domestic abuse. After all, my friend did harass her when he was trying to get her to pay her rent. The woman even hired a lawyer to file a complaint against my friend for harassment. She could live there forever under SB782.

AB1871 - This new law allows people to lease out their unused cars without the need to purchase additional insurance.
This law is clearly the result of lawmakers smoking marijuana. What is the insurance company going to do now when they receive a claim from a car owner who was leasing out his car to someone who had recently lost their auto insurance due to too many accidents and bad driving convictions? They will have to pay and then they will increase all of our rates to pay for Californians' stupidity for such a stupid law.

AB537 - This new law will make food stamps an acceptable form of payment at farmers markets through the EBT process.
It is bad enough that welfare recipients in California use their food stamp debit cards to pay for Las Vegas gambling, cruise ships, and Hawaiian Vacations, but now they can use their food stamps to pay the added cost to buy their food at farmers markets. I know a woman who has a pet rabbit and a pet turtle and a house full of cats. They all are like a family and they all run free in the house. The wood floor is rotted out from pet urine, and the furniture is matted with fur and ?????. She mentioned to me the other day that she only buys her pets the good fruits and vegetables at farmers markets. None of that regular produce from Albertsons or Krogers or Ralphs like the rest of us eat. And this woman is on state welfare, too. Now things just got easier for her. She can use her ATM card to buy pet food.

SB1449 and AB97 - These two new laws have to be mentioned together. The first makes it only an "infraction" to possess up to one ounce of marijuana where the second new law absolutely bans the use of trans-fats in food facilities.
The goodness of Californians really shines in these two new laws. They want to allow the use of marijuana for people with cancer and they also want to make sure that people are eating good and healthy food. What more could people of California do to show their love for humanity? But when you put them together, you see how stupid they are, especially in light of California's stringent anti-smoking laws. How can you forbid people from eating trans-fats in delicious fried foods like French Fries and Chicken McNuggets and forbid them from smoking cigarettes but allow them to smoke marijuana. Let me get this straight? It is okay to smoke marijuana while driving a car but not to eat French Fries. Does that make any sense to you? And heaven forbid that a company like McDonalds sell a Happy Meal that offers children a toy along with their trans-fat meal.

AB715 - Requires that all new California buildings be energy efficient.
On the surface the law sounds harmless. But when you understand what is meant by "energy efficient" and the cost of implementing the law, it scares you right out of the state. We already have laws on the books that allow the government to regulate the air temperature inside our homes, via remotely controlled thermostats. We already have laws that dictate that California homes be built with thermal insulation inside walls and ceilings. They regulate how much water you can use to water your yard and when you can water your lawns. They control the efficiency of your household appliances and now forbid you to have a gas or wood burning fireplace. There are no more campfires, no more Tiki torches and they may even make it illegal to light a wooden match.

There are plenty more where those came from, too. So if you are thinking of moving to California or starting a business here........THINK AGAIN!

Provo, Utah Tabernacle Destroyed by Fire!

This past week a treasured landmark in the city of Provo, Utah was destroyed by fire. Apparently the building is a total loss. When my wife and I and our little family were students at BYU, we used to attend our Stake Conferences in the old beautiful building. I used to enjoy the stained glass windows and the wonderful handiwork of the pioneers who built this grand building.

Here below is the way I will always remember the Provo Tabernacle; the last time I saw it. A wonderful old building.

Obama Reveals His Incompetence and Ineptitude

Last week President Obama called a special press conference to convince the Democrats and others that his latest Tax Bill was good for the country. He introduced former President Bill Clinton and then walked out of the room to attend a holiday gathering, leaving Clinton to do his job for him.

AM I THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD WHO SEES THIS ACTION AS PROOF OF OBAMA'S INEPTITUDE AND HIS GROSS INCOMPETENCE?

Grandma's Homemade Yogurt

During much of my early childhood I remember that my grandmother (my Dad's mother) lived for many years with my aunt and uncle (my Dad's sister and her husband) and their family in Palmdale, California. My grandmother always had shelled almonds in the refrigerator. When we would eat them she would remind us to always chew them 30 times before swallowing. Have you ever tried to chew anything 30 times? Have you ever tried to chew something 20 times? By the time you have chew food 10 times there is nothing left to chew.

Anyway, one of the things my grandmother loved to make was her special homemade yogurt. She had a special yogurt maker that she placed on top of the refrigerator so little hands could not touch it. It had a white glass bowl that sat on top of a low temperature heating element. I don't remember all of the special ingredients that she put into the bowl to get it started, but it included milk, sugar, and a bunch of other stuff. As it started to "cook" it would bubble once in a while and the bubbles would pop. You could hear the mixture bubbling on top of the refrigerator. Any leftover items from the family meals were often added to the mixture, especially the last ounces of milk left behind in the kids glasses. If by chance Grandma found that milk had gone bad in the refrigerator, it was quickly added to the mixture, even if it was separated and chunky.

I seem to remember as you walked past the refrigerator when the yogurt was bubbling, it was very important not to get any of the mixture on your clothes, if it spattered out of the bowl. I remember that the mixture would burn a hole in your shirt or pants. Powerful stuff that homemade yogurt was!

Well, as you can imagine, I never acquired a desire to eat yogurt after watching how it was made. Even the kind they sold in the stores. I thought all yogurt was made from fermented milk and table scraps. After all, that would explain why real yogurt does not require refrigeration. It can't go bad, because it already is bad. Additional fermentation only made it better.

Of course there are lots of cheap imitation varieties of yogurt available in local stores. They all require refrigeration and many have added fruit to make them taste better.

I have found one good use for yogurt as I have had to travel abroad for my job. My first trips to France and the UK always left me sick for days, with stomach pain and diarrhea. Before the next trip a guy at work told me to eat some local yogurt as soon as I arrived in any foreign country. He said that the local bacteria would help digest the local food and items in the water.

Well, on my next trip to the UK I tried it and it worked! I slowly acquired a taste for one variety of yogurt. It is the Activia brand of vanilla flavored yogurt in the small dark green containers. It has become one of my favorite snack foods now.

What I still do not understand, however, is why does store bought yogurt require refrigeration? It must not be made the same way that my grandma always made her homemade yogurt.

White Student Unions

About 20 years ago I was working in our front yard and was listening to a local talk radio show. A man called in to say that he was organizing a White Student's Union at a local university, but was meeting with considerable resistance from the community and the school.

When the talk radio host began taking calls from his listeners, I was amazed to hear the angry responses from so many black people.

Q - Why do you need to organize a White Student's Union?
A - In order to bring together white people who have similar beliefs about how best to help men and women of all races and nationalities and to make the world a better place.

Q - What would you talk about at your meetings?
A - Things that white people want to talk about to promote the objectives of the organization.

For some reason it has been acceptable to organize a Black Student's Union, and even to provide them an office on campus with the name of the organization painted on the door. But heaven forbid if you talked about a White Student's Union.

Well that was 20 years ago.......

When you talk about organizing a White Students Union you are labeled a Racist. The same response is heard if you were to propose a White Woman Beauty Pageant, even though there are beauty pageants open only to black women. There are also scholarships open only to black children. What would be the response if someone offered to fund a White Childen's Scholarship?

There is also the Congressional Black Caucus (shown here), and nobody complains about it. How would they respond if there was a proposal to organize a Congressional White Caucus?

Government Takes Control Over Our Choice of Foods

In keeping with the liberal government's belief that THEY know what is best for the people, we are seeing more and more of the government taking control over our lives. The reason they can get away with most of it is because they claim that this control is for our own good.
Consider the simple obvious examples such as the seat belt law, light bulb laws, the recycling law, the motorcycle helmet law, the child safety restraint law, or the house temperature control law (where the gov't forces you to save energy by controlling your home temperature in California). Even though research has shown that seat belts save lives, the government made a law which says that you have to wear a seat belt. And since it is a law, they have the ability to enforce it with police action.

   Most recently with the Obamas in the White House, Mrs. Obama is pushing her agenda for healthy foods. She even has grown a small garden in the White House lawn where she can produce enough vegetables for local news stations to film her picking and harvesting. I am not sure what the Obama's White House Chef would say if Mrs. Obama brought him a bucket of dirty carrots from outside.
   With her fine example along with pressure from other liberal do-good folks, we are seeing various laws popping up across the nation to FORCE the people to comply with the government's point of view. Take the trans fat law that is already in place in Baltimore (see link below) where it is against the law to produce and sell meals that exceed 0.5 grams of trans fat. The government actually fines restaurants that break the trans fat law when they produce menu items that exceed 0.5 grams of trans fat. No more french fries or donuts, etc. allowed in Baltimore unless you make them illegally in your own home.

   In the most recent example, the city of San Francisco just passed a law banning the sale of McDonalds Happy Meals (see link below). They chose the Happy Meal because McDonalds gives away a toy with each meal. The liberals claim that the toy gift encourages the child to eat unhealthy food. The government might allow a toy to be given away with a meal of carrots and beets and cucumbers.

Obama Says His Failure Was to Convince the People of How Well He Was Doing

In the link below from CBS, Obama talked about the reason that he believes he lost so much ground during the recent election. This arrogant man fails to understand that the majority of the people in the US did not agree with what he and the Democrats had done and the decisions that had been made. This guy believes that the reason the Democrats lost was because he failed to help us (the majority of people) understand that what they did was actually for our benefit and that it was the correct thing to do. In other words he knows better than we do about what is better for the people of the United States. He believes that we are too stupid to choose for ourselves and make our own decisions. Without his guidance and help we will make wrong decisions. We need him to help us. Only he can save us, if we will but understand what he wants for us.

I hope all the people who read the CBS article and listened to his interview understand the significance of what this arrogant fool is saying and what he believes. I only hope we can survive another two years until he is removed from office by the next election. (Read Psalms 109:8)

Californians Are Good People...But Boy Are They STUPID!

After watching election returns from around the country it was clear that the majority of Americans were unhappy with the status quo'. Those who had previously voted for Obama and his change, must not have been happy with the change they saw, or they were frustrated with the lack of change they expected. In any case, the wave of unhappiness took the country by storm and the Republicans turned everything upside down for Obama and the Democrats. People seemed to say, "We don't want higher taxes, we don't want bigger government, we don't want more debt, we are concerned about our country and it's health and economy."

That is.....Everyone except those who live in California!

Here in California about 60% of the people voted to keep extreme liberal Barbara Boxer in the Senate and to give Jerry Brown (Governor Moonbeam) another chance to botch things up like he did twice before as the Governor of California. I agree with Dennis Miller when he was interviewed Wednesday night on Fox News. He commented that the majority of people in California are "nuts"! How else could you explain it?

I liked what Dennis Miller also said about California later in the show. He said he woke up after the election and it was like a Christmas when all of his friends got GI Joes and all he got was a sweater.

About the only good thing that happened in California was that the people had enough sense to vote down a proposition to legalize marijuana. Thank goodness for that.

After thinking it over in my head, I believe that all of this shows us that basically the people in California are good people. They realize that it is not a good idea to legalize marijuana in California for a multitude of reasons.

At the same time, the election results also show the world that at least 60% of the people in California are just plain STUPID.

My wife and I are giving some very serious consideration to moving out of California.

But how far do we have to move to get away from the Stupidity disease?

Nevada is clearly not far enough away...

Apparently the California STUPIDITY disease has spread to the neighboring state of Nevada, where the people voted to keep Harry Reid in the Senate.

Maybe we should move to Utah?

We'll see what the near future brings before we make the move.

I was born in one country, raised in another.

My father was born in another country.

I was not his only child.

I became very close to my mother, as my father showed no interest in me.

They said I had a gold tongue and could talk to anyone and motivate them. That reinforced my conceit.
I had a virtually non-existent resume, little work history, and no experience in leading a single organization.

Yet I was a powerful speaker and citizens were drawn to me as though I were a magnet and they were small roofing tacks.

I drew large crowds during my public appearances. This bolstered my ego.
At first, my political campaign focused on my country's foreign policy, then on change.
I was very critical of my country in the war and seized every opportunity to bash my country.
But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on the country's economy and the need for change.

I pretended to have a really good plan on how we could do better and every poor person would be fed & housed for free.

I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess. It was the free market, banks & corporations.
I decided to start making citizens hate these institutions and if they were envious of others who did well, the plan was clinched tight.
I called mine "A People's Campaign" and that sounded good to people.
I was the surprise candidate.
I emerged from outside the traditional path of politics & was able to gain widespread popular support.

I knew that, if I merely offered the people 'hope,' together we could change our country.

So, I started to make my speeches sound like they were on behalf of the downtrodden, poor, ignorant to include "persecuted minorities".
My true views were not widely known & I kept them unknown, until after I became my nation's leader.
I had to carefully guard reality, as anybody could have easily found out what I really believed, if they had simply read my writings and examined those people I associated with.
I'm glad they didn't as I became the most powerful man in the world.
And the world learned the truth.

Today the Associated Press said they refuse to show images of the planned burning of a Koran because it might offend the Muslims.

However the AP broadcast this photo above to the world today of a US Flag being burned in Pakistan.

I guess the US Flag burning did not offend any Muslims.

I don't agree that we should be burning a copy of the Koran but you would think the AP would recognize their own hypocricy in selecting who they can and cannot offend.

News Media Disappointed with Hurricane Earl

You could see it coming. Not the hurricane, mind you, but the media's bloodthirsty anticipation of destruction! For days before Earl passed harmlessly by the East Coast of the United States the media warned and warned again that it was going to be a big one. Each time the winds increased, the media announced that the storm had been upgraded to a 2.... then a 3.... and then a 4! The media seemed drunk with the power they had over the people. The forced evacuations were but one example of the media's power and ability to control what was going on.

And then what happened.....?

Instead of ripping buildings apart and drowning hundreds with the giant storm surge, the hurricane passed harmlessly by the East Coast and dumped a bunch of rain. The disappointed media quickly sank back into their holes. They did not get to stand in the rain with their camera lights and their face getting beaten by the frozen droplets of 200 mph rain. They had nothing to show for their efforts. How very disappointed they were!

I was doing a Google Search this morning to find out about the aftermath of Hurricane Earl, but there is little that was written. There was no story about how they had overestimated the hurricane or how the evacuations were a costly waste of time and money. There was no story about the gross errors in their computer modeling, which by the way is similar to the computer model that they use to predict global warming.

But what would you expect the media to do, after they did all they could to build it up and scare everyone to death and to force people to leave their homes and their belongings during the evacuations? They will tell you that they did it for the public good and that they were just doing their job to keep everyone informed.

What a bunch of hooey!

How To Tie Your Shoes Correctly

When I first began dating my wife, nearly 40 years ago, her shoe laces were always coming undone. Being a Boy Scout, trained in the art of knot tying, I noticed almost immediately that she was not tying her shoe laces with the correct knot. She was tying what is called a Granny Knot. Nearly everyone has heard about the Granny Knot. It is a improperly tied Square Knot that slips when you put it under load and easily comes undone.

   The fix was easy. I simply had her reverse the first part of the knot so that the knot ended up a proper Square Knot. I have met many people in my life who do not tie their shoe laces properly and always have a problem keeping the laces from coming undone. Sometimes this can be quite embarrassing.

Proper Shoe Lace Knot Technique

   Several years ago I met a young women at work who was between jobs and getting ready to begin a new career in the TV News Industry. While she worked at our company we taught her the correct way to tie her shoes and it really made a great impression on her.
   Several months later she left our company and began here new TV news career in Arizona. One of her first stories was on the correct way to tie shoe laces. She went to a local school and conducted an experiment where she had half the kids tie their shoes one way and half the other way. After the kids played out in the yard at recess, she checked to see if there was a difference in how well the knots stayed tied. She found out that the Granny Knot came loose much more often than the Square Knot. As part of her story she visited a local Scoutmaster and had him explain the difference between the two knots and explain why one was better than the other.

Big Brother Going Through Your Trash

Yes it is TRUE!

The government will soon be going through your trash and it is already starting in Cleveland, Ohio.

The city is planting microchips in the residents recycling trashcans...(I am not making this up)...to monitor how often they recycle trash. If the city decides that you are not recycling your share of material they will send a crew over to your house and go through your trash to see if you are putting recyclable material in your regular trashcan. If they find more than 10% recyclable material in your trash can, you will be fined $100, according to Waste Collection Commissioner Ronnie Owens.

Now pay particular attention to the next part of the story.

The Cleveland City Council approved spending $2,500,000.00 (that is 2.5 million dollars) for the cost of planting the microchips inside the special trashcans. They did not provide an estimate of the cost of paying "trash supervisors" to go through people's trashcans, nor did they say how they will measure the amount of recyclable material.

I assume it will be determined by weight.

Let's imagine how this process will work.

Let's say that you go on vacation and don't put out your recycle trashcan for a couple of weeks. The computer in the city trash truck that is monitoring your trashcan usage, notices that they haven't picked up your recycle trashcan for some time. For reasons that you will soon understand the city must next obtain a search warrant. With that warrant in hand, a deputy sheriff and the city trash commissioner are dispatched with a special truck to your address. They arrive at your home and knock on your door. They must not provide any advance notice of their arrival or else you might presort your trash before they arrive, thereby defeating the entire purpose of the raid and also forfeiting the $100 fine. Thus the reason for the warrant. Since you and your wife may not be home during the day, the city worker and the deputy enter your back yard with the warrant and legally move the trashcan to the front street.

As your neighbors watch in amazement the trash supervisor first must weigh the contents of the trashcan. To accomplish that they must empty the contents onto a scale that records the total weight of your trash. Next they move your trash onto a special sorting table and sort it into two receptacles. In one of the containers they place choice pieces of recyclable items including glass, metal cans, plastic bottles, paper and cardboard. If any of the paper or cardboard happens to be wet, the trash supervisor will smile, knowing the moisture will add to the weight of the recyclable items he is hoping to find. Keep in mind that everyone in your neighborhood will watch as the trash supervisor sorts through the remnants of last night's dinner and other items that you thought were private. If you have wrapped any of the items in a bag or in any way tried to conceal them from the inspector, the containers will be opened to confirm that they do not contain recyclable material.

You might imagine that quite a crowd might gather around the truck as the inspector works. The deputy who accompanied the inspector will also take care of any necessary crowd control, using his Taser if necessary to keep homeless people from grabbing plastic bottles or aluminum cans.

After all the material has been sorted, the "trash supervisor" pushes a special button on the trash computer which uses proprietary software and trash algorithms to calculate how much trash has been placed in the wrong trashcan. If the number exceeds 10% you will receive a $100 fine on your next bill from the trash company.

And don't you even think about not paying the fine! If you do, they city will place a lean on your house and take special steps to destroy your credit rating and reputation.

So there you have it. Sounds bizarre you may think. Never happen, you say! Not in my lifetime, you hope!

BUT IT IS ALREADY HAPPENING!

Last year they city of Cleveland, Ohio, issued 2900 tickets for violations of the city's trash collection code. They say that this number is nearly five times more tickets than they issued the previous year. According to Waste Collection Commissioner Ronnie Owens, his "Division of Waste Collection is on track to meet is goal of issuing 4000 citations in 2010."

I don't know about you, but I firmly believe that these environmentalists are totally out of control!

Obama Snubs Boy Scouts at National Jamboree

Since Obama was elected president, many Americans have suspected that he has been trying to distance himself from the Boy Scouts of America. When he was named Honorary President of the Boy Scouts on March 3, 2009, he reluctantly accepted the position in a quiet ceremony in the White House, with little fanfare and few of the press in attendance. There are rumors that he has delayed and in some cases refused to sign the certificates for Eagle Scouts.

But the latest evidence is clear for everyone to see. There is no question about it now. Obama does not like the Boy Scouts it does not speak well for his own character.

This year is the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, and it is also time for the BSA's National Jamboree that is only held every four years. Unless a US president serves two terms, he only has one opportunity to attend one National Jamboree during his presidency. The previous three US presidents have spoken at the National Jamboree including both Bush's as well as President Clinton. President Obama was recently invited by the BSA to speak at this year's National Jamboree in Virgina. According to my precise calculations, Virgina is not far from Washington, DC. In fact the jamboree is nearly in his back yard!

But Obama has declined to attend the jamboree.

Obama Snubs Boy Scouts

He is going to appear on a TV show called "The View" with Barbara Walters. In addition he is doing some very important fund raising for the Democratic Party. But the jamboree is nearly a week in length. Couldn't he find time to attend the jamboree at least once during that week? Apparently not!

Why am I not surprized? Because this is exactly what I would expect from a man who hates America. I am one of many who does not believe that Obama was even born in the US. He refused to salute the American flag during the National Anthem and offered a lengthy explanation why he did not want to wear an American Flag lapel pin on his jacket. Wherever he goes he bad mouths our great country and everything it stands for.

He doesn't like the Boy Scouts of America because he doesn't like America.

How did this man ever get elected?

Alien Lawn Mound Invades My Yard

The other night I came home and heard some strange sounds coming from our back yard. I turned on the patio lights and went out onto the patio to see if there was something there. I couldn't believe my eyes! There in the lawn was a giant mound rising up higher and higher. It was easily about 10 feet in diameter and over a foot tall in the center. AND IT WAS GROWING! It scared me to death! When it got about 2-1/2 feet tall it stopped growing and became silent and still. I walked over to it and put my foot on it to see if I could move it. It was solid! I walked up on top of it and it easily supported my weight.

After some checking I realized that it was the result of a leak in a pipe that passed under the lawn. I turned off the water to the pipe and decided to wait till morning to see where the leak was and how best to fix it.

By morning the alien mound was gone and the yard was peaceful again. I was able to locate the leak and repair the pipe before nightfall so that the mound would not return.

It was a night that I will never forget.

While ignoring the wishes of the majority of Americans, the Democratic Party followed the out-of-date example of our bank-busting European neighbors and passed Obama Care into law. All the while they failed to notice that the nanny-state of Greece was going bankrupt and that the Prime Minister of Canada was coming to America to obtain his own personal medical care.

Now that Obama Care has become law, the Democrats may still fail to notice that Great Britain is moving away from centralized Health Care to one that is run by doctors at the local level. Imagine that...having local doctors decide what is best for their patients instead of the government! How novel! How logical!

Great Britain Decentralizes Their Health Care System

The biggest obstacle to Great Britain's goal to increase efficiency by $30 billion and to reduce administrative costs by 45%, will be the elimination of tens of thousands of government jobs. That has got to be a painful process, especially with the associated labor unions and benefits and pensions and high salaries.

There may still be time for the United States which is only just beginning to create a similar health care bureaucracy by hiring tens of thousands of new government employees to administer Obama Care.

Why don't the Democrats in Congress notice what is going on in countries that have already tried their version of Obama Care? Why don't they listen to the voters who elected them and are telling them that they don't want centralized medical care? They don't want bigger government. And they especially don't want the higher taxes that are required to pay for additional government employees!

What makes these arrogant politicians believe that they now what is best for America instead of what their constituents tell them to do?

There is still time to prevent disaster! Vote for REAL Change not Obama's change! Vote out our current congress this coming election!

"Get My Shotgun !!!"

I had a dear friend, named Vern, who recently passed away from cancer. He was from Yugoslavia and legally immigrated to the US when he was a young man. Before he died he told me a great story that I will never forget.

One warm summer night, he and his wife were asleep in bed. Their bedroom was located above their garage on the front of the house. Two large sliding glass doors opened up to a small balcony just above the entrance to the garage. Since the night was warm, they had left the sliding doors open to let in the cool air.

In the early morning, Vern was awakened by the sound of the screen door sliding open. Quietly he opened his eyes to see a man on the balcony preparing to enter his bedroom through the sliding glass door. As the intruder silently parted the curtains to enter the room, Vern yelled at the top of his lungs,

"GET MY SHOTGUN!!!"

The intruder's response was immediate! He turned around and dashed across the balcony to the railing. Climbing up on the top of the railing, he jumped about 15 feet to the concrete driveway below, destroying both of his ankles. The police followed the trail of blood from the compound fractures to some nearby bushes where they arrested the intruder, who was in severe pain and grateful to receive medical care.

Now the interesting part of the story is that Vern did not even own a shotgun. If he had, I doubt it would have made any difference. Why did the intruder risk his life by jumping from a second story balcony if he never saw Vern's gun? What frightened him so much that he would crush both his ankles? The answer is simple!

The intruder was simply frightened by the possibility that Vern DID own a gun and that he was prepared to use it to protect his family and his possessions. He was frightened by the possibility that if he entered that room, he would face the destructive force of both barrels of a 12 gage shotgun. It was Vern's legal right to own a gun and the possibility that he had exercised that right that frightened the intruder away.

Would things have been different if the intruder knew that Vern did not own a gun? Would the outcome have been different if the intruder had known that the US Government had made it illegal for Vern to buy a gun or to buy ammunition? I think you will agree with me that things would have been very different for Vern and his sweet wife had the intruder known that his life was not in danger as he crept silently into their bedroom.

We must maintain our right to bear arms and to own guns and ammunition, IF FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN TO INSTILL THE FEAR OF DEATH IN THE HEART OF EVERY WOULD BE CRIMINAL WHO EVEN CONSIDERS COMMITTING A CRIME AGAINST THEIR NEIGHBORS.

What Good Are Guns Without Ammunition?

There has been and always will be a heated debate over the possession and the sale of guns in the United States. Attempts to limit the sale and ownership of firearms are common but have always failed due in great part to the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution.

Recently it appears that the proponents of gun control are trying a new approach. While they continue their frontal assault on the sale and ownership of firearms, this is only a ploy to distract the public from their flank attack, which is:

“They will let Americans own their guns, but they will make sure that the government controls the sale of ammunition.”

This new method of gun control seems to be gaining a foothold in the United States. Their tactic is to gradually reduce the availability of ammunition to Americans who own guns. At first the government said they only wanted to limit the sale of certain kinds of ammunition that could only be used for illegal purposes. Then the ban expanded to other types of ammunition. Gun shops were forced to move their stock from the store shelves to behind the counters and then into locked cabinets. Now laws are being passed to prevent the sale of ammunition through the mail. Through these gradual changes to the law, it is getting more and more difficult to buy even common varieties of ammunition.

“You can keep your precious guns,” they laugh, “but just try and use them without ammunition.”

Recently some gun and ammunition stores in California have had enough! They have filed a lawsuit against the government for violating the Commerce Clause of the US Constitution. They claim that these new laws are limiting their ability to sell guns and specifically ammunition across state lines.

We will see how successful these brave Americans are as they battle to preserve the right of every citizen to own, AND USE, a gun in the United States of America.

Confusion Over California's Cell Phone Law

It is currently illegal to use a hand held cell phone in the state of California when you are driving an automobile, car or truck.

The exact wording of the law is as follows:

“A person shall not drive a motor vehicle while using a wireless telephone unless that telephone is specifically designed and configured to allow hands-free listening and talking, and is used in that manner while driving.” (Ref. California Vehicle Code 23123)

But what does that mean? Apparently it is confusing to a lot of people.

Ever since the law was passed I have seen a dozen new ways to use a cell phone which people apparently believe is legal.

Take for example the women who simply does not put the cell phone to her ear? She believes that it is legal to use her cell phone if she holds the cell phone in her hand in front of her mouth and not to her ear. She believes that by putting it on speaker phone mode, it is now configured for hands-free listening and talking. The basic problem with this technique is that the driver is still using one hand to hold the cell phone.

A variation on that technique is the guy with ear phones in his ears which are attached by a short electrical cord to the cell phone which he holds in his right hand. Here again, the driver is still using one hand to hold the cell phone. Also, the driver may not realize that in California it is also illegal to wear ear phones while driving. My son recently found out about that law when he was visiting from another state.

Still another new hands-free technique is when the passenger holds the cell phone to the driver’s ear so that the driver’s hands remain on the steering wheel. A problem with this method is that the passenger does always know the correct alignment of the phone to the driver’s ear, and the driver often has to adjust the phone so that he or she can hear. This requires that the driver remove his or her hand from the steering wheel to make the adjustment, or they may move their head around to achieve the proper position.

Another interesting method I saw recently involved the use of a Bluetooth earpiece that the driver had inserted into their ear. This allowed the driver to have both hands free to wave and gesture wildly as they talked on the phone. As I cautiously approached the car from behind, I initially thought they were trying to swat a fly that was loose in the front seat.

Whatever the true interpretation of the law, we may never know because there is little enforcement of the law by local police. This is evident as you drive on the freeway and see so many people using their cell phones while they drive.

It seems to me that if the law were enforced, word would quickly spread through local communities by word of mouth about what is and is not allowed. And I believe it would be safer to drive on our nation’s highways.

No Pledge of Allegiance in Massachusetts' Classrooms

   A few weeks ago I wrote about a man who was not allowed to fly the American Flag inside the living room window of his own home (MacNiven - May 27, 2010), and today's news is more of the same liberal garbage. Check out the link below if you are like me and find it hard to believe, but it is verily true...the principle of a Massachusetts High School has actually forbidden students from reciting the US Pledge of Allegiance inside the classroom. However, not wishing to appear anti-American, he has generously allowed the students to recite the pledge before school begins, but only in the school's foyer. The liberal principal's name is Charles Skidmore and he is supported by his superintendent Kathleen Bodie. Their reasoning is typical of politically correct liberals. They "wanted to be sensitive to the diverse group of students" in the school. It is okay to offend thousands of American students by preventing them from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, but heaven forbid if we ever offend an atheist student who doesn't believe in God or an illegal alien who refuses to obey US law.
   One of the students in the school, a 17 year old patriot named Sean Harrington, noticed that there were no American Flags displayed inside his Arlington, Massachusetts High School. He enlisted the help of other students to help him get them installed, and while he was at it he decided that it would be appropriate if they could recite the Pledge of Allegiance. His request to recite the pledge was denied by a 3-3 vote of some high school committee with the lame excuse that even voluntarily reciting the pledge might violate some people's religious beliefs. One of the no-votes on the committee was a woman named Leba Heigham, who was quoted as saying, "Patriotism is a very personal thing to all of us", but she did not think it was in the committee's best interest to have the students or teachers recite the Pledge of Allegiance in their classrooms.
   So there you have it! No American Flags and now no Pledge of Allegiance. We should have seen it coming when, during the 2008 election, Obama refused to place his hand over his heart during the playing of the National Anthem. What kind of America are we leaving to future generations?

So.California Sea Otters Defy Federal Court Order

I read this morning that a group of Sea Otters have defied a federal court order and have moved outside their designated boundaries in the ocean off the coast of Southern California. Many years ago a large group of Sea Otters was moved to one of the islands off the Santa Barbara coast to protect them in the event that there was a giant oil spill. They were told to stay near the island and away from the California coast. Occasionally a few conservative otters would venture out of the boundary but they were quickly gathered up by federal employees (paid for from our taxes) and returned to the island.

After watching TV and seeing the success of the Tea Party Movement, a large number of Sea Otters decided that they had had enough federal government control, and left their designated area in defiance of the federal court order. What is worse is that they have moved into commercial fishing areas where the food is more plentiful and have taken some heat from local fisherman.

The fishermen's complaint is not so much that the otters are eating too much, but that they are getting caught in their nets. Because the Sea Otters are protected by the Obama Administration and the federal government, a fisherman who accidently catches a Sea Otter could risk fines, prison and even worse.

Local fisherman are hoping the issue can quickly be resolved, as is the local Sea Otter population which is now facing stiff fines and jail time for venturing outside their designated safe zone.

The problem has worsened over the last few days as the US Supreme Court has agreed to decide on the fate of the overcrowed California Prison System which clearly does not have enough space to house thousands of endangered Sea Otters and their families.

Asphalt or Concrete - Only a True Princess Can Tell

Have you seen people who jog in the street instead of the nearby sidewalk? I asked them why they don't use the sidewalk and they told me that they prefer the asphalt because it is not as hard on their knees. They claim they can feel the difference between the hardness of the concrete and the hardness of the asphalt.

Really!? Doesn't that remind you of the "Princess and the Pea"?

We have all heard the fairy tell of the young woman who tried to sleep on a stack of mattresses and since she was a true princess she was able to detect that there was a pea at the bottom of the stack of mattresses.

That is similar to the sensitivity that a jogger must have to detect the difference between the hardness of asphalt and concrete, when you consider the softness of the running shoes as well as socks. With the softness of the shoe sole as well as the softness of the socks, I submit to you that there is no way your foot can feel through those two soft springs and detect the hardness of the ground underneath.

I propose that we do a simple test...

Give me a jogger with his running shoes and some nice soft cotton socks and I will show you that if they jump up and down all day on concrete or asphalt, they won't be able to tell the difference.

Isn't This America? - Yet Some Cannot Fly the American Flag!

I am hearing more and more cases where Americans are being told that they cannot fly the American Flag outside their homes! IT SEEMS UNBELIEVABLE!!!! But it is true.

You might wonder, "Why would a citizen of the United States be forbidden to fly the national flag outside their homes in the United States of America?"

The answer is based upon the misplaced desire for politically correctness.

Recently a US Veteran and his wife were told that they could not display their American Flag on the front of their home or they would face eviction from their home. Not wanting to cause trouble they hung the flag inside their living room window where it was still visible from their front yard. They were ordered to remove the flag from their window or face eviction.

The authorities who ordered the flag removal offered the excuse that they lived in a diverisfied neighborhood and they did not want to offend someone who may not share the same American patriotism as this couple.

But I go back to my original point...."THIS IS AMERICA!"

Not only should the authorities allow this couple to fly the American flag, but they should actually be encouraging them to do so!

What has happened this great nation that we have become so concerned about offending others, that we cannot pray at high school graduations, we cannot display a cross or a Christmas nativitiy scene, and now we cannot even fly our own nation's flag?

THIS HAS GONE TOO FAR! WE HAVE GOT TO TAKE BACK OUR NATION FROM THE IDIOT LIBERALS WHO ARE DESTROYING OUR NATION.

Transparent Obama Administration? - Just a Bunch of Words!

There have been numerous recent examples of just how much the Obama administration is NOT transparent.

Obama is not holding press conferences.

He refuses to respond to the questions from most major news reporters.

He produces his own news videos and stories from within the Whitehouse and distributes them to the news agencies instead of making himself available to the press.

His legislation is not available to be reviewed before it is voted upon by Congress and even most of them haven't even been able to read it before they are required to vote on it.

Many decisions are made behind closed doors.

The government is now run by Czars who are not accountable to anyone but Obama.

Rule Number 1 - "Don't Answer Your Cell Phone While Sitting on the Toilet in a Public Restroom

The other day I was using the facilities in one of our men's restrooms at work. As I sat there, I heard a loud cell phone ringer from the next stall. It rang three times. I wondered if the idiot was going to answer it. Finally he did, but I am sure he soon regrettted his decision. The conversation went something like this:

"Hello." "Yes this is George," "What do you need?"

At this point a guy in another stall flushed a toilet and the loud flushing sound reverberated within the restroom. The person on the other line must have heard the unmistakable sound and asked where George was.

"Oh, I'm at work." [Good answer, George. Keep the details to a minimum]

At this point another guy in a nearby stall let loose with the loudest and most disgusting sound I have ever heard. It echoed off the tile walls and instantly filled the room with a horrible smell as well as a dark mist.

"What's that?" [The person must have asked another question, that George didn't understand, probably due to

the loud noise.]

"Oh, it's just some guys messing around in the next cubicle." [They must have heard the sound as well.]

"No, I am not in the bathroom!" [This comment was followed by another toilet flush and a loud grunt from another stall.]

"I will have to call you back later. I am really busy, now." [The caller must have been pressing for the truth]

"I am busy, that's all." [Sounds like the caller doesn't believe what they are hearing.]

[Two more flushes and a loud groan reverberate within the room.]

"I AM telling you the truth! I am NOT in the bathroom." [The situation is definitely getting worse]

[By now, everyone in the room knows what is going on and are doing their best to make the situation as difficult as possible for this poor guy]

"Say, Mac! Don't forget to wash your hands," yells one guy.

"I will, Joe, but it looks like we are running low on soap," adds another man nearby.

"What is that awful smell?" asks still another. "We are going to have to change your diet!"

"Hello. Hello. Hello." [Apparently the caller hung up.]

This little girl claims she is in debt to the sum of $38,375. However that number is out of date as it changes continuously. The little girl owes another $403 since she put that sign around her tiny neck. All of us are in increasing debt!

Law Enforcement Does Not Mean We HATE You!

I know some wonderful people who live in the United Kingdom. They have tried for years to legally come to the United States to live and work, but have been unable to find a sponsor. They are law abiding people who recognize and respect US immigration laws.

I also have many friends who have gone through the long and sometimes expensive immigration process and are now proud American Citizens. While they still love their birth country, they have learned to speak and write English, and have adopted the customs and laws of the US. One of them got upset with me the other day when I bought a Japanese automobile instead of one made in America. He is a true blue American.

Then there are others, like those in this photo, who have come to the US illegally. They do not recognize or respect the US immigration laws. Some climbed over a fence. Others came in the trunk of a car. Some walked through a tunnel. Many walked through the hot deserts without food or water. There are also some who swam across a river or two. However they got here, many to not embrace US customs and tradtions. They refuse to learn English and they wave their native flags in our faces. They over-crowd our hospitals, our jails and prisons, and they pack our school classrooms. They live off state welfare and burden our country with their problems, their graffiti and their gangs.

For strange political reasons, our corrupt polititions refuse to enforce our US immigration laws. The border states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas are forced to accept most of the cost of this failure by the Federal Government. They have appealed for financial aid from the Federal Governemt for years without help.

Finally the state of Arizona says "Enough is Enough!" We are no longer willing to sponsor these illegals in our financially strapped state. "If the Federal Government is unwilling to enforce their own laws, then we will use our own police force to do it for them."

And then come the marches and the protests. "Why do you HATE us?" they cry, "We are humans, just like you." For some reason these illegals think we HATE them. I don't know where this idea originates. Just because we try to enforce the laws of our country, these people think it is out of HATE! HATE has nothing to do with law enforcement. We just expect those who come to the US to obey the same laws that we must follow. Why should they be any different?

With the help of our corrupt and impotent Federal Government, these illegal immigrants have made a mockery of our system of immigration law as well as our ability to protect the borders of our own country.

The other day a reporter asked Obama what he thought of the Tea Party demonstrations that were being held across the nation. He chuckled and said that they were "amusing". Then he told the reporter that instead of demonstrating, those people "should be thanking him" for what he has done to lower their taxes.

I am not sure what planet Obama is living on, but I haven't seen MY taxes going down. I am also confident that our taxes will likely sky-rocket as we try to pay off the massive debt of trillions of dollars that he has spent this past year.

As I see it, Obama is either lying to us, or he is an idiot.

I tend to believe that he is lying to the American people, but what also upsets me is that he must believe we are stupid enough to believe all the lies that he keeps feeding us!
